Fans shared dramatic videos of the escalating confrontation and the furious singer being removed from the stage.

Concert Cut Short: Jane’s Addiction’s Boston Show Ends Abruptly After Perry Farrell Punches Dave Navarro

A Jane’s Addiction concert in Boston took an unexpected turn Friday night when Perry Farrell, visibly enraged, threw a punch at guitarist Dave Navarro. Crew members quickly intervened, restraining Farrell and escorting him offstage while he remained visibly agitated.

The altercation, captured by numerous fans and shared widely on social media, came after a series of troubling performances on the band’s reunion tour. This incident has left fans wondering whether the remaining shows on their long-awaited reunion tour—the band’s first in 14 years—will proceed as planned.

In the video footage, the band was mid-performance of “Ocean Size,” the 11th song in a set usually consisting of 14 or 15 tracks, when tensions between Farrell and Navarro escalated. Some fans noted that signs of discord had been apparent in previous songs. The footage shows Farrell growling at Navarro during a solo, aggressively bumping shoulders, and then seemingly punching him. As the stage lights dimmed, three crew members, including bassist Eric Avery, intervened to remove Farrell from the stage, despite his continued struggle.

Following Farrell's departure, the remaining band members, including Navarro, addressed the audience, offering a calm farewell with hugs, applause, and peace signs.

The incident quickly gained traction online, with some fans jokingly comparing the situation to Oasis and others expressing concern for the band. One attendee tweeted, “The crowd was split—half disappointed the show ended early, half thrilled they might have witnessed Jane’s Addiction’s last show.”

On setlist.fm, the Boston show’s trivia now ironically notes: “Stephen Perkins’ drum kit was decorated with balloons for his birthday. The set ended early after Perry Farrell punched Dave Navarro.”

Representatives for Jane’s Addiction and tour promoter Live Nation were unavailable for comment on Friday night.

Earlier this week, social media buzzed about the band’s performances in New York City. At the first of two concerts at Rooftop at Pier 51, Farrell admitted to vocal issues, saying, “Something’s wrong with my voice. I just can’t get the notes out.” Eric Avery later expressed optimism for the next show, which was reportedly better received, though Farrell’s performance was noted for occasional rambling and reliance on a vocal effects device.

Ironically, Farrell had previously intervened in a fight among the audience at the second New York show, making peace between two fans.

A review of the band’s Tampa show earlier this month hinted at underlying tension, noting Farrell’s erratic behavior and Navarro’s apparent frustration.

Jane’s Addiction’s tour, co-headlining with Love & Rockets, is set to continue with 15 shows remaining, concluding on October 16 at L.A.’s YouTube Theater. As of now, the tour is expected to proceed as scheduled.
